Pendle Hill

Friday 31st May 2024

Today, we set out to conquer the iconic Pendle Hill via the steep route. Starting from our base, it was just under two miles to the summit. Although the weather was favorable, visibility was compromised by a low-lying mist in the distance. The views were impressive, yet they would have been more so had we been able to see Morecambe Bay. Our return journey along the Ogden Valley Greenway path led us across Barley Moor and into Ogden Clough, eventually reaching the Ogden Reservoirs. We had lunch atop a steep bank before descending and crossing the river to the other side of the clough. Weaving through the reservoirs, we entered Fell Wood, a dramatic woodland, and ascended to Saddlers Height before making our way to Newchurch in Pendle, where we all enjoyed an ice cream. From there, it was a return to Barley.
