About Mansfield & Sherwood Ramblers
Now in our 25th year, Mansfield & Sherwood Ramblers is the thriving local Ramblers group for Mansfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield and the surrounding areas. We’re fortunate to be based in a landscape rich with variety: the ancient woodland of Sherwood Forest, the historic Dukeries with Clumber and Rufford Parks, and magnificent houses such as Newstead Abbey and Hardwick Hall. Our industrial heritage has left us a network of country parks and trails to explore, and the breathtaking Peak District is only a short drive away.
We offer walks of all distances and levels, mostly on Sundays but also on weekdays and occasional evenings. Each walk is led by one of our trained leaders, all bringing their own personality, experience, and deep knowledge of the local area. Many of our routes include unexpected or lesser‑known places, and you’re welcome to try any walk before becoming a member.
In recent years, the physical and mental health benefits of walking have become increasingly recognised. Our group has grown as more people look to challenge themselves with longer or more varied walks in new and interesting locations. New members often tell us they’ve lived locally for years yet never knew many of the paths we explore even existed.
With a large team of experienced leaders, we’re able to offer a wide range of walks—through woodland, across fields, along riversides and canal paths, over hills and edges. Walking with us also means meeting people from different backgrounds and interests, sharing stories, local history, and knowledge of nature, flora and fauna.
We also organise holidays and weekends away, open to friends and family, often featuring sections of some of the country’s best‑known long‑distance trails.
And of course, we enjoy a lively social calendar throughout the year, from theatre trips (pantomime included!) to meals out and visits to historic places.
