Our Committee
Below are the names of our committee members and a brief description of the roles.
Secretary - Brian Tuffnell
- Working with the Group Chair to arrange meetings, including agendas.
- Arranging meetings, including the AGM, booking rooms, sending out invitations, organising catering and other arrangements.
- Making sure that accurate minutes are taken and circulated.
- Making sure that all records are kept up to date and safe.
- Keeping in touch with Ramblers' offices, sharing news, including key organisational policies with the group committee and groups
Treasurer - Martyn Gill
- Working with the other members of the committee to plan our group's budget for the year.
- Working with the group treasurers in the area to make sure that spending plans are coordinated.
- Keeping accurate records of all income and expenditure.
- Making sure that all income and expenditure is in line with policies and procedures.
- Regularly presenting information on the group's finances to local meetings.
- Providing formal financial returns to the Ramblers' offices for audit purposes
Chair - Currently vacant
- Supporting the group committee to run the group well, follow good practice and join in national/local initiatives.
- Make sure that policies and procedures are followed so that the group, its members and volunteers are kept safe and legal.
- Oversee the group's working relationship with local authorities, organisations and politicians.
- Develop activities in line with the priorities of the Ramblers' Area.
- Make sure that the group follows all of the required governance, including AGMs and attendance at area meetings.
- Put in place activities and initiatives so that belonging to the Ramblers in our group is enjoyable and welcoming.
Vice Chair - Stephen Bramley
- Supporting the chair in the leadership of our group committee, making sure it runs the group well, follows good practice and joins in national/local initiatives.
- In deputising for the Chair, make sure that policies and procedures are followed so that our group, its members and volunteers are kept safe and legal.
- Supporting the overseeing of our group's working relationship with local authorities, organisations and politicians.
- Supporting the chair in the development of activities in line with the priorities of the Ramblers' Area.
- Helping the chair by making sure that our group follows all of the required governance, including AGMs and attendance at area meetings.
- Supporting the chair while putting in place activities and initiatives so that belonging to the Ramblers in our group is enjoyable and welcoming.
Social Secretary - Vanessa McGrath
- Working with other volunteers and members, plan a social events programme that is of interestto the group.
- Make sure that any budget or costs are agreed in advance.
- Publicise all events to make sure that members know about them and are able to join in.
- Make sure that any sign-ups or lists for events are kept in line with data protection rules.
Footpaths Officer - Mary Whetstone
- Assessing and responding to proposals to change the path network, working with other volunteers and Ramblers' offices when necessary, deciding the organisation's response.
- Representing the Ramblers at meetings and public events in our local area.
- Working with the rights of way volunteers across the area and its groups.
- Keeping up to date with legal and policy information about paths and planning issues nationally as well as in our own area.
- Representing the Ramblers' group on rights of way issues with the local authority, as required.
- Checking and assessing local paths, reporting any issues.
Membership Secretary - Julie Casey
- Communicate with prospective new members answering any questions they may have and letting them know more about our group and the Ramblers and directing prospective new members to our website to join online.
- Welcome new members to our group, highlighting the different ways members can engage locally. Answer any questions they make have on our group activities and the Ramblers.
- Retain current members through regular communications about your group walks, social events programme, and local campaigning activity.
- Follow-up with payment pending members where appropriate, to encourage members renew.
- Maintain member records and communicate with members using the Membership Secretary dashboard. Be the key lead volunteer for our group’s data protection, making sure that volunteers know how to use data and being responsible for keeping members' data safe.
- Provide regular reporting to other volunteer roles in your Group on membership numbers and key membership statistics.
- If interested, actively support the recruitment of new members. This may involve attending local events, maintaining social media platforms locally or trying out new initiatives like Meetup for example.
